A tale of contrast--where decay meets grace. One side cradles corrosion, textures of time eating away at metal. The other, a basin of vibrant roses, their petals whispering of fleeting beauty. A visual tension between entropy and renewal.

These two images have the point of view of looking down into bucket-type objects, one empty and relatively smooth (though with slight color and texture), the other filled to the brim with the colorful heads of flowers. Both objects were found on the opposite corners of the block where I live. The first, outside a Chinese restaurant, was one large metal sieve with a copper bottom, lots of holes creating radiating lines, a slight warped shape, rusty handles, and a little dirt and trash at the edges of the base. I was very tempted to take this appealing object home. At the other end of my block, I spied this bucket of rose heads where a man sells flowers at the side of a bodega. These roses must have been defective in some way and had been discarded. The diptych contrasts hard man-made metal to soft organic material… with a lot of lovely color thrown in.
