This diptych highlights the artistry in urban residues. The left panel shows a vein-like pattern of coffee grounds seeping into cracked asphalt, resembling organic networks or maps. The right reveals a leaf-like silhouette formed by dispersed grounds. Enhanced orange tones transform this everyday waste into a striking visual narrative.
The first image of this diptych has always reminded me of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel "Creation of Adam" (the one with the fingers in tension, almost touching). Something about the movement and gesture. It is paired with another coffee ground picture, shot seven years later. The second image is also gestural, a bit explosive, and it is the more textural of the two. I had to work the coffee ground colors quite a bit to get the intense orange held within.
