A textured red diptych with cracked surfaces and layered paint, resembling geological erosion and urban decay.

The 14th Street Busway, the topic of most of the images of the 'Seeing Red' series, turns onto Avenue A and proceeds towards my home. Most of the images are from around Union Square, but this one was shot nearby. The red here leans more towards maroon, but it was the cracks that drew my attention, which suggest rivers and canyons. The cracks were due to sloppy re-surfacing of the road and occured at the edge of the road, by the curb, long before the addition of the red paint. The white paint also seems to pre-date the red. Regardless these cracks and sweeps of white called out to me, demanded my notice.

Again texture is a major theme as well as our starring color of red. But here geology is also a strong suggestion.
