Located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, this panoramic work layers a working power plant and the freight trains that service it into a dense, shifting composition. Rail cars, tracks, and industrial structures accumulate against a partly cloudy sky, while vibrant color and overlapping frames introduce movement across what might otherwise be a static industrial scene. The combination of realism and distortion gives the work a slightly surreal quality, in which the familiar is made strange through the compression of multiple perspectives.
Part of Susan Bowen's Holgaramas series, exploring layered views of the rural landscape through continuous, overlapping frames.
