At pavement level, a chunky boot descends mid-step in the right foreground while a row of sneakers and shoes — Vans, Velcro straps, worn leather — line up across the frame. Reflections in a storefront window and the texture of the sidewalk ground the composition in the particular materiality of New York street life, reducing the crowd to its most essential detail: what people wear on their feet.
