street lines and leaves

I’m drawn to the marks that guide us but often go unnoticed—the painted lines and colorful shapes that show us how we move through the city. Over time, they fade, chip, overlap, and take on a life of their own. Sometimes mistakes are made during painting that leads to unexpected results. What serves as a practical purpose becomes something abstract, expressive, and strangely beautiful.

In this series, I photograph those markings not as street directions, but as compositions. I look for places where geometry meets accident—where a sharp edge of white cuts through asphalt, a cracked yellow line crosses the frame, or where paint is unintentionally splattered. These feel like small conversations between order and impermanence, design and decay.

For me, Lines of the City is about seeing the city differently. It’s about finding structure and grace in the worn and the overlooked in recognizing that beauty often appears where we least expect it.

Most of the subjects in my various "looking down" series are ephemeral in nature... that what I am shooting will likely be gone or changed at any moment.  I enjoy the element of chance in my work; I never know what I will find.  What others don't notice is for me an opportunity for self-expression and the surprise of unexpected beauty.
